GSM-set, a unique communication device

SmirnovDesign has enjoyed close partnership with Videofon MV company for some time and recently finished another project for it – design a unique multifunctional device.

GSM-set is an innovative product in the field of communication devices and comprises several units: the main one (Coordinator GSM-modem), a camera unit and a simple wire telephone adaptor unit.

Coordinator GSM-modem allows connecting with other units and provides GSM-connection of the GSM-set with the outer world. Beside that Coordinator can become a separate device, e.g. a modem, connecting to a computer through a USB-port. It can also serve as a microphone or a recorder which prevents the user from having duplicate devices.

GSM-camera

Connecting the camera unit to Coordinator the customer gets a GSM-camera that allows energy-free monitoring through GSM-connection. One can watch streaming frames on the Internet with the maximum frequency possible with the GSM-connection in the area of monitoring.

The owner of such GSM-set can send an SMS with a certain code and get an MMS with a picture taken by the camera.

Wire telephone adaptor

GSM-adaptor allows to make calls from a simple wire telephone through mobile connection. This option is very useful for elderly people who are used to classic telephones with big buttons and feel awkward when using cellular phones.

It is also useful in places without stable telephone connection and even without electricity. GSM-adaptor work on AA batteries and imitates telephone line in full.

Thus, GSM-set is a unique concept that can be broadened with time adding new units and introducing new options facilitating safety monitoring and communication organization. And it was SmirnovDesign that got to design this device.

Designing the product

The aim for SmirnovDesign specialists was to design the main device units: the GSM-modem Coordinator, camera and telephone adaptor. All the electronics was developed by the client, so our designers had to built a case around the existing components.

The main requirement for the design was its originality, the devices having to be distinguishable on the market among other similar products. It was also essential to avoid parallels with mobile phones to stress the uniqueness of the concept.

Mobility of the units and their usage in a system defined requirements for the dimensions (the products had to be small if not tiny) and unified design style for all units. And SmirnovDesign specialists were highly successful in satisfying all the client’s requirements and creating a unique device with simple and attractive design.
