A new look at the clothes-peg's design

To design such a seemingly simple article, as clothes-peg turns out to become quite a complicated matter, especially taking into account a variety of both technological, and manufacturing constraints. Nevertheless, SmirnovDesing’s specialists succeeded in not only considering a large set of the article’s performance specifications, but in creating a novel, bright and emotional design. Bearing in mind that many major design consultancies dealt with design of the article (moreover, several years ago IF Design was awarded to the clothes-peg’s product design), a fact of designing something new in a clothes-peg is worth to be mentioned. To find a compromiss between an original design and technical limitations inherent to any mass-production - a main task of any developer – was successfully solved in this project.

After analyzing basic targets of the project, namely, wastes minimization, plastic’s mass optimization and, of course, economical efficiency of manufacturing, SmirnovDesign’s specialists decided to simplify a configuration of the peg. An optimal solution was found after many iterations: apart from a spring, clothes-peg is a one-part thing. Advantages of such decision are obvious: simplicity in manufacturing (there is no assembly stage at all) and a general impossibility of dismounting clothes-peg in user’s hands.| Next...
