Festival of Industrial Design DESIGN ACT 2009

09 | 09 | 2009

Festival of Industrial Design DESIGN ACT 2009 took place in the Moscow Contemporary Art Center - WINZAVOD at the end of the August.

SmirnovDesign, not only took part in the Design Forum, taking place in the exhibition, but also presented its exposition at the stand in the White Hall.

From 27 to 30 August, all visitors could see the unique lamps with lampshade consisting of multicolored clothespins, linked together in a special way. These pins are new objects of industrial design. They were developed and produced by our studio for the “Electrotechnika” company. Our exhibit was not simply a series of art objects, designed to draw attention to our company. We touched on the social theme, as these pins are made by blind people, for whom such a small object become one of the most important in life, because it ensures a stable income and work together with ordinary people.

Throughout the exhibition visitors could not just looking at the lamps on our stand, but also trying to play the role of the designer, settling on the cozy soft mattresses and collect up any bizarre shape out of the colored pins. Customers appreciated this opportunity, and our stand was one of the most visited and visible at the exhibition. Especially we were popular among visitors with children. For us it became a pleasant discovery that our pins are perceived more as a constructor, designed exclusively for the game.

Art-director of our company Nadia Orlova spoke at the Design Forum, with story on the subject entitled "We are hunting for trends or are they hunting for us?". This theme is very topical in the world and it is gaining interest in Russia. SmirnovDesign pays great attention to design research and trendspotting. We are one of the pioneers of this discipline in the field of product development in our country. Of course, full of interesting facts report raised great interest both among professionals and among the ordinary visitors.

We note that SmirnovDesign taking part in the Festival  Design Act not for the first time and  going to continue the current trend in the future.
